step involves embracing the possibility of a higher power and its ability to help us heal 3 Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God This step involves surrendering our control and allowing God to lead us 4 Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves This step involves honestly examining our thoughts feelings and behaviors 5 Admitted to God to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs Sharing our struggles with a trusted friend or mentor helps us to release shame and receive support 6 Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character This step involves letting go of our defenses and allowing God to work in our lives 7 Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings This step involves asking for Gods help in overcoming our weaknesses 8 Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all This step involves taking responsibility for our actions and seeking reconciliation with those weve hurt 9 Made direct amends to such people wherever possible except when to do so would injure them or others This step involves taking practical steps to make things
