Durham Public Library Art Exhibit Policy Durham Public Library Art Exhibit Policy 10 Purpose This policy outlines the guidelines and procedures for the Durham Public Librarys art exhibit program Its purpose is to Promote access to the arts By providing a platform for local regional and national artists to showcase their work Enhance the Librarys visual environment By fostering a vibrant and engaging atmosphere for patrons Support cultural diversity By featuring a range of artistic styles and perspectives Foster community engagement By creating opportunities for artists and the public to interact 20 Eligibility and Application Process 21 Eligibility Any artist or group of artists may submit a proposal for an art exhibit at the Durham Public Library Proposals must be for artwork that is appropriate for a public library setting taking into consideration the librarys diverse clientele and familyfriendly environment 22 Application Process Artists and groups interested in exhibiting their work must submit an online application available on the Durham Public Library website The application must include Artist statement and biography Portfolio of artwork Proposed exhibit title and description Proposed dates for the exhibit Any specific technical requirements for the exhibit Applications will be reviewed by a Library Art Exhibit Committee comprised of Library staff community members and art professionals The Committee will evaluate proposals based on 2 Artistic merit and originality Relevance to the librarys mission and community Feasibility of installation and display Artists experience and professionalism 30 Exhibit Selection and Scheduling 31 Selection The Library Art Exhibit Committee will make recommendations for exhibit selections to the Library Director The Library Director will make the final decision on exhibit selections Priority will be given to proposals that align with the librarys current programming and community needs 32 Scheduling Exhibit dates will be determined in consultation with the selected artist or group Exhibit spaces are available on a firstcome firstserved basis The Library reserves the right to modify or cancel exhibits due to unforeseen circumstances 40 Exhibit Installation and Removal 41 Installation The selected artist or group will be responsible for the installation and deinstallation of their exhibit The Library will provide assistance with the installation process including access to equipment and tools Artists must adhere to the Librarys safety and security protocols during installation and de installation 42 Removal Artists are responsible for removing all artwork and materials from the exhibit space at the end of the exhibition period The Library will provide assistance with removal as necessary 50 Liability and Insurance 51 Liability The Library is not responsible for any damage or loss to artwork during the exhibition period Artists are responsible for insuring their artwork for the duration of the exhibit 3 52 Insurance Artists are required to provide proof of insurance coverage for their artwork before the exhibition begins The Library reserves the right to require additional insurance coverage in specific situations 60 Public Access and Outreach 61 Public Access All exhibits are open to the public during regular library hours The Library will promote exhibits through its website social media and other communication channels 62 Outreach The Library encourages artists to participate in public outreach activities related to their exhibit such as artist talks workshops and receptions The Library will provide support for outreach activities as possible 70 Exhibit Guidelines 71 Content Artwork must be appropriate for a public library setting Artwork that is offensive obscene or potentially harmful will not be accepted The Library reserves the right to review and reject artwork based on content 72 Technical Requirements Artwork must be securely mounted and installed Artists must adhere to the Librarys safety and security protocols The Library reserves the right to request modifications to artwork for safety and security purposes 73 Sales Artists may sell their artwork during the exhibition period Sales arrangements will be made between the artist and the buyer The Library does not facilitate sales or take a commission on sales 80 Review and Amendment This policy is subject to review and amendment by the Library Director All amendments will be communicated to the public through the Library website and other communication 4 channels 90 Contact Information For any questions or inquiries related to the Durham Public Library Art Exhibit Policy please contact the Library Director at email protected
