situations including Fire Severe Weather including tornadoes Active Shooter Medical Emergency Bomb Threat Power Outage Chemical Spill Responsibility Everyone in the SOM community is responsible for Procedures Website Insert website URL here III Emergency Procedures A Fire Evacuation If you smell smoke or see fire 2 Activate the nearest fire alarm pull station Evacuate the building immediately Use the designated exit routes Do not use elevators Do not attempt to fight the fire unless you are trained to do so If you hear the fire alarm Evacuate the building immediately Use the designated exit routes Do not use elevators Proceed to the designated assembly area Assembly Area The assembly area is located at Insert location details here Stay in the assembly area until instructed otherwise by emergency personnel Account for everyone After evacuating ensure everyone in your departmentgroup is accounted for Report any missing persons to the emergency personnel B Severe Weather including Tornadoes Warning Signs Listen for severe weather warnings on the radio or television Monitor weather alerts on the UMHS Emergency Management website Procedures Seek immediate shelter in a designated safe area within the building If possible go to a lower level and away from windows If you are outside seek shelter in a sturdy building or a ditch Stay away from windows glass doors and exterior walls Do not use elevators Shelter in Place If instructed to shelter in place remain in your current location Close and lock all doors and windows Turn off lights and electronics Stay away from windows and exterior walls Stay calm and wait for further instructions C Active Shooter Run Hide Fight Run If possible run to a safe location away from the shooter 3 Hide If you cannot run hide in a secure location and lock the door Fight As a last resort if you are cornered fight back against the attacker Stay Alert Be aware of your surroundings and any potential threats Do not talk or make noise that could attract the shooter Follow Instructions Listen to and follow the instructions of law enforcement officers Stay calm and do not resist their commands Report the Incident If you are safe call 911 and report the active shooter situation D Medical Emergency Immediate Action Call for help If the emergency involves a lifethreatening situation call 911 If it is a nonemergency call UPD at 7347641181 Provide first aid If you are trained in first aid provide assistance to the victim Do not move the victim unless they are in immediate danger Medical Personnel Stay with the victim and not touch it Report the threat immediately to UPD Evacuation If UPD instructs you to evacuate follow their instructions Leave the area immediately and proceed to the designated assembly area Follow Instructions Listen carefully to UPD and other emergency personnel Do not return to the building until it has been declared safe by UPD F Power Outage Safety Precautions 4 Stay away from any downed power lines Assume all electrical outlets are live Do not use candles or open flames Use flashlights for illumination Communication Use cell phones to communicate with others Check for updates on the UMHS Emergency Management website Stay Calm Remain calm and wait for power to be restored G Chemical Spill Immediate Action Call for help Call UPD at 7347641181 If the spill is a hazardous material call the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality at 18002924706 Evacuate the area If possible evacuate the area immediately If you cannot evacuate stay upwind of the spill Avoid contact Do not
